The Paleo Diet Bar from Shark Tank

The Paleo Diet Bar shark tank

Paleo Diet Foods are nutrition bars that provide the benefits of the Paleo Diet in a convenient form. The Paleo diet foods’ bars are all about unprocessed whole foods such as eggs, meat, vegetables, seeds, nuts, berries, and fruits instead of over-processed foods that are an integral part of the food industry.

The Paleo Diet Foods’ bars are developed on the idea that the human metabolism hasn’t changed since the Paleolithic era, which is why it is important to consume a similar diet instead of relying on processed foods and refined carbs that are not the best source of nutrition.

Shauna Sledge, the founder of Paleo Diet Foods, built up the $135,000 company for many years before she appeared on Shark Tank. Prior to the development of Paleo Diet Foods, she was working as a fitness instructor and a part-time dental hygienist while being a mom to three beautiful children.

Given the nature of her job, she has always been a health and fitness enthusiast, but she also knows that if you want to get the best results in terms of your health, you need to focus on your kitchen along with the gym. Since what you eat provides 80% of your health and fitness results, she became interested in knowing more about the Paleo diet. As she met Loren Cordain, the Godfather of the Paleo diet movement, in the dentist’s chair, her desire to know more about this type of diet increased further.

Since the Paleo diet focuses on the fact that the human metabolism hasn’t changed from the Paleolithic era, however, given the changing nature of living, Shauna Sledge started wondering if there is any convenient form of using whole foods like nuts, meat, fruit, and vegetables and that’s when she came up with the idea of an easy-to-eat Paleo diet bar.

The Paleo Diet Foods’ bars are made using Paleo diet-approved ingredients and exclude dairy and gluten. Shauna Sledge managed to work closely with Dr. Loren Cordain to develop an authentic and top-quality product for the market. Given the high quality of the product, Dr. Loren Cordain also endorsed it as a high-quality product that you can trust.

Shauna Sledge’s husband Todd has also been in the health and fitness industry for a long time, so the shared passion of the couple for health and fitness led to the development of a healthy and nutritious Paleo diet food bar.

Is The Paleo Diet Bar Still an Active Business?

The company that sold Paleo Diet Foods rebranded itself as The Paleo Ranch in 2016. Today, they have a thriving Amazon Store, and you can also find their products in several large brick-and-mortar stores, including Walmart and Shaw’s. The company expanded its product line and is growing over time.

How Did the Shark Tank Pitch Go?

The Paleo Diet Foods made its Shark Tank appearance in the 27th episode of the 7th season of the show. Shawna Sledge and her husband were seeking an investment of $150,000 in exchange for a 20% stake in the company.

The episode started with a home video that showed Shawna Sledge and Todd their children. The woman in the video shares her story and explains the benefits of the Paleo diet and a healthy lifestyle but doesn’t really talk about the product in the video. As the segment opened up following the video, Shawna Sledge walked onto the stage into the Shark Tank and was accompanied by an interesting friend who was actually a caveman. She went on to introduce herself as an entrepreneur from Colorado who is inspired by her desire to promote health and fitness. Shawna Sledge explained that she is a mother of three kids, a part-time dental hygienist, and a fitness instructor who wants to promote the Paleo Diet. She went on to explain that the Paleo Diet focuses on consuming whole foods and lean protein and avoiding starchy foods and dairy foods as well as processed foods.

Shawna Sledge called her business The Paleo Diet Foods, and was looking for a $150,000 investment in the company for a 20% equity stake.

She further went on to tell the Sharks about the Paleo Diet Bar and how she came up with the menu. She focused more on how being back to basics is all that we need to stay healthy. As she introduced the Paleo Diet Bar, she went on to explain that it contains nine amino acids and 17 grams of protein.

Moreover, the diet bar is free of dairy, soy, and gluten. She also mentioned that being back to the basics doesn’t mean you need to go back to the cave. Rather it means consuming a healthy diet that the human body needs to survive and thrive. Furthermore, she added that Dr. Lori Cordain owns 5% of the company and receives 10% of the sales as royalty payments.

She asked the judges if they wanted to try the bar, which they eagerly did. While Lori wasn’t a fan of the Paleo Diet Food bar’s taste, the judges tried it and shared a positive review. However, Daymond and Robert had issues as she was spreading herself too thin, which wasn’t leaving enough time for her to focus on her budding business.

At the end of the episode, there was any conclusion between the Sharks and Paleo Diet Foods.

Our Review of The Paleo Diet Foods:

When you first look at the Paleo Diet Foods bar, it doesn’t look any different from other nutrient bars available on the market. However, the USP of this bar is that it is made using Paleo-diet-approved ingredients, which primarily include nuts, seeds, berries, and lean protein. So essentially, it is loaded with nutrients that your body requires and offers you the convenience of consuming them without getting into the hassle of obtaining whole, natural foods.

However, there are a few not-so-desirable aspects of this product. Some people do not like its taste, while others find it hard to chew and are not happy with its texture.

Pros of The Paleo Diet Foods

  • Made with Paleo-diet-approved ingredients,
  • Each bar contains nine amino acids and 17 grams of protein.

Cons of The Paleo Diet Foods

  • Some people may not like the bland taste,

Our Final Thoughts

To sum up, the Paleo Diet Food provides a great opportunity to conveniently consume whole foods that are loaded with protein; however, the product is not the best way to consume whole foods for all people.
