Salad Sling from Shark Tank

Salad Sling shark tank

Salad Sling is an alternative to the normal salad spinner. It’s a type of dish towel that can be used to wash your greens before you throw them into a salad. The salad dryer is easy to use as compared to the regular kind. That’s harder to clean. It can be used to dry all kinds of greens like lettuce and herbs.

It’s made of high-quality absorbent microfibers that quickly soak up any water, while the inner lining is waterproof, so it doesn’t get your kitchen counter wet. You can also flip the cloth over and use it thanks to the waterproof liner. The cloth is machine-washable and easy to fold for storage. It’s also FDA-approved and free of BPAs too.

All you have to do is put the greens at the center of the cloth, tie it up, swing the cloth around and then just lay it flat so any remaining droplets can dry up. It was invented by Jill Visit, who loved eating salads and was working in advertising when she realized that traditional salad spinners are difficult to use and clean up after. That’s why she decided to invent the sling.

The Sling also takes up a lot less time than a traditional spinner, which Visit discovered quite accidentally while drying her greens with a dishcloth. Jill was hoping to get an investment so that she could expand production and officially get her business started.

Are They Still an Active Company?

Yes, the company is active and still in business.

How Did the Shark Tank Pitch Go?

She came to Shark Tank seeking an investment of $100,000 for a 20% stake in her company. At first, she seemed to propose an interesting product. Since the sling uses synthetic fibers and neoprene microfiber to soak up and pull extra water from greenery. It has a patent and is very light. It also has a waterproof polyester liner inside so that the salad stays moist. The third layer is a polyurethane laminate that is used for carrying. Plus it was free of BPA. It also meets all of the safety guidelines required by the Food and drug administration and Cali Prop 65.

All of the sharks seemed to agree, though, that Jill offered a great product. Even though many people thought the item was fun and would make a good gift, the Sharks didn’t think it was the kind of item that would help a business grow. Simply put, the Sharks thought that Jill only had a commodity instead of a business idea.

In the end, they declared that they might purchase the item for themselves, but they would not invest in the business. This meant that Jill had to leave without reaching an agreement.

The business is very much still alive and well.

Although it’s difficult to determine if the company has grown by leaps and bounds or if Jill only does it part-time, we can tell from Salad Sling’s social media profiles that it’s doing well. Jill posted a picture to Instagram of her filling the many orders that came in after her pitch on Shark Tank. Southern Living, a magazine about Southern life, also wrote about it later.

Our Review of Salad Sling

We decided to try out Salad Sling for ourselves to see how it would fare in real life.

The good news is that it’s better at drying greens than a regular salad spinner. With the Sling, there was less water on the spinach leaves, and any remaining water particles were easy to get off by gently tapping the herbs with the towel. Greens also dried faster in the sling than in a salad spinner. A salad spinner takes up a lot more space than this one.

It can also be folded into a box that is about 9 by 4 by 4 inches. Or, it could be mounted on a hook on the inside of a kitchen cupboard, which is great for a simple kitchen!

A salad spin bowler is big and bulky, and it takes up a lot of space in your cabinet. An average one would be about 7 inches tall and 11 inches wide and 11 inches long. It’s easier to clean the Sling too. Every time you use it, you can wash it or use the hook to hang it up to dry. It can be washed and dried in a machine. It’s also quite affordable as compared to traditional spinners.

The bad news is that a lot of people might prefer to buy a more efficiently designed spinner. Plus you need a firm grip for this, so if your grip is weak, you might struggle to use this product.

Who Is Salad Sling for?

This product is mainly aimed at people who love eating salads but are tired of having to clean out their salad spinner every time they dry their greens.

Are There Any Alternatives?

Although this product is quite unique, there are many types of salad spinners on the market that serve the same function.

The Home-X Salad Spinner With Pouring Spout is one good alternative to Salad Sling because even though it doesn’t dry out your greens, it’s perfect to wash and drain them. And the greens will dry out automatically when the water’s been emptied out. With this spinner, you won’t have to worry about spilling or splashing water everywhere.

Unlike Salad Sling, you can also use this spinner to store vegetables. Compared to traditional spinners, cleaning this one is easier because all you have to do is remove the plastic strainer bowl. It’s a lightweight, BPA-free tool that will give you an incentive to have salads more frequently and eat healthy.

Our Final Thoughts

The Sling gives you an interesting, fun, and useful way to make your favorite salads like a pro. It also makes it easier to eat salads, which are some of the healthiest foods you can eat. However, there are many better-designed alternatives. Plus it’s not really a necessary investment when cheaper salad spinners already exist in the market.
