You would believe anybody who develops a product called “Kisstixx” would be a young, hip adult, making strides to create something revolutionary. But much to people’s shock, Mike and Dallas are not your typical adult males. They are far from being carelessly hip with a strong moral background of upbringing and cultural influence. But that did stop them.
Mike and Dallas were normal students of Utah Valley University when they first got this interesting idea of a product that makes instantaneously cool among the ladies. So you can say that before pitching this to the sharks, they clearly pitched the idea around their counterparts and succeeded – because why else will there be a need to go ahead with the product.
And so Kisstixx was born. In its essence, the product is a mere lip balm. However, the unique factor that plays a major role in differentiating it from all the other lip products circulating these days is that the lip balms are chemically engineered to have complimentary flavors. This means each flavor is paired with another so that each individual uses one, and two complimentary flavors combine to create a new flavor profile when two people kiss.
So regardless if you see this in all seriousness or you want to purchase it for the humor of it all, it definitely didn’t stop Mike and Dallas from making an appearance on Shark Tank. Marking one of the funniest episodes to air, the duo was successful in getting Barbara Corcoran and Mr. Wonderful to test the product with a live kiss.
The Kisstixx guys came with a proposal of $200,000 in exchange for a 20% business share. As they started to talk more about the product, it was revealed that the product had earned them more than $80,000 in sales within a year. Dallas specified that when he was in high school, his sole purpose had become to earn kisses from the ladies and soak in the sun.
However, laying long hours under the sun gave him dry and chapped lips. So he was adamant about a better experience for both parties involved and went on to try almost every lip balm out there in the market but to no avail. Neither did the lip balms soften his lips nor taste any better. In fact, he put it as “cherry cough syrup” flavoring, which he found disgusting.
So naturally, he took it upon himself to up his kissing game with the ladies by creating his very own lip balm, now proudly acclaimed as Kisstixx. And to make his point, he gestured for Mike to take out the pina colada and strawberry daiquiri flavor samples that they had bought. He told everyone that these two flavors would go on to create a Miami Vice drink flavor together.
That is precisely when the iconic moment happened. As Dallas and Mike called them upon, Barbara and Kevin made it to the stage. The two judges were reluctant and more so hesitant to go ahead. Barbara was more embarrassed simply for the fun of it. However, that didn’t stop everyone else from creating jokes and chanting them on to kiss.
As they kissed for what felt like an eternity-long awkward moment in time – they pulled away with other judges being disgusted, Barbara still being embarrassed, and the very Mr. Wonderful being charmed, claiming there was a change in flavor and it was “very tasty.” Now it was finally time to start the negotiations.
With Barbara still in recovery mode, showed no interest whatsoever in the product moving forward. However, Mark showed some keen interest in the product and made a counter offer of $200,000 for a 40% stake in their business. This was met with a bit of skepticism by the Utah duo as they revealed that they had an order from Walgreens worth $540k.
However, with no other significant offers making the rounds that would light up a sense of consideration, Mike and Dallas happily agreed to Mark’s offer. They knew they had somehow managed to create history on the show and succeeded in walking away with a good enough deal – all within a matter of minutes.
Continuing the success, Kisstixx became a household name as the Walgreens deal undoubtedly paved the way. It is safe to say that Shark Tank made Kisstixx a global brand as today, Mark Cuban’s investment is considered one of the best in the show’s making. We bought the infamous fire and ice duo from Amazon and were shocked by the results. The ice one really creates a tingling sensation on your lips, making them feel cooler, whereas the fire one creates a plumping sensation to make your lips feel hot. The lip balm certainly applies smoothly and delivers its promise of hydrating and softening your lips.
You can also find Kisstixx in many other flavor combinations. Even if you don’t want to share the duo, you can keep both for yourself as the flavors are delicious on their own, soften and plump your lips and also have SPF 15 to provide protection against the UV rays of the sun and save them from getting that unhealthy darkened chapped appearance.
