Electra Beverages from Shark Tank

Electra Beverages shark tank

Electra Beverages is a company that sells hydrating sports drinks made with all-natural ingredients and full of vitamins and electrolytes. The drink comes in a variety of flavors and is full of the right type of antioxidants and proteins you need for healthy hydration.

The company was founded by Fran Harris, who used to be a professional basketball player and had a lot of experience with drinking different types of hydration drinks in her career. Apart from being an athlete, Fran also had experience working as a beauty sales executive at P&G. Since she’d been drinking hydration drinks for almost 3 years, she felt that the market needed more options and better taste.

That’s when she decided to start Electra Beverages which offered three flavors – Litty Lemonade, Passion Punch, and Oh Yeah!. The best-selling point of the drinks was that they didn’t contain any artificial ingredients. And actually had a lot of healthy nutrients packed into it. It was a large 16-ounce bottle that could easily hydrate someone who’d just done an intense workout. The drink also contained a lot of vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids, and electrolytes.

Fran was able to start her company with an online fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo, where she managed to raise almost $7212. As a once-famous former athlete, she was hoping to win over the Sharks and use their investment to expand production and retail distribution for her product. The company was still new so it hadn’t made any sales at that stage.

Are They Still an Active Company?

Yes, the company is active and still in business.

How Did the Shark Tank Pitch Go?

Fran Harris came to Shark Tank seeking an investment of $200,000 for  20% equity in her business. She began her pitch by introducing the product and handing out samples. The Sharks were convinced by the flavor but not by the sales of the company. They also had concerns about the competition and over-saturation in the industry. There were already too many options on the market so Harris was facing a tough future.

However, Fran didn’t back off easily and claimed that she could handle the competition since she’d already had experience with being in this field. She added that she wasn’t afraid of being crushed by bigger companies and that she planned to gain popularity directly through retail and online sales.

Plus, at that time, Harris had no sales since the company was still fresh, and the whole point of the investment was to get the money she needed to increase production and set marketing in motion. Mark stepped out first because he’d already signed deals with other hydration drink companies, followed by Kevin, who didn’t think that she had enough information on her market.

After this, Daymond and Lori stepped out too because they were either not interested or unwilling to take on the challenges of the competitive field.

It looked unlikely that she was going to get a deal until Fran claimed that there were already some professional athletes interested in the product. It was then that Barbara actively pitched an offer. She agreed to give $100,000 plus $250,000 credit in the future for a 30% stake in the company.

Barbara also added that her offer would only go through if Fran was successfully brought  thes athletes on board and Harris agreed. Overall, the Electra Beverages Shark Tank Review was positive and they left with a good deal.

Currently, the company donates 10% of its profit to charity and have a very solid sales rate, both online and in retail.

Our Review of Electra Beverages

We decided to try Electra Beverages for ourselves to see how it would fair in real life.

The good news is that the flavor was delicious, and they had a lot of variety in flavors, unlike most electrolyte brands. They also had really attractive and premium-looking packaging. The packaging’s also recyclable, which makes it environmentally friendly. On top of that, the product has low sugar and calories, making it perfect for extra health-conscious people.

The bad news is that the flavors are limited compared to other brands with coffee and other interesting flavors available. Plus, the product has a lot of competition and is not as affordable as other electrolyte drinks.

Pros of Electra Beverages

  • Premium and recyclable packaging
  • Low-sugar and low-calories
  • No artificial ingredients
  • A lot of vitamins, antioxidants and electrolytes

Cons of Electra Beverages

  • Expensive
  • Not enough variety in flavors

Who Is Electra Beverages for?

This drink mainly targets at people who want a healthy sports drink alternative to the ones on the market, specifically for people who play professional sports and want to enjoya drink that’s full of nutrients and also has more variety in flavors.

Are There Any Alternatives?

Hydrating electrolyte beverages are nothing new. There are hundreds of alternatives to Electra Beverages.

Nuun Sport is one good alternative to Electra. However, instead of being a ready-made drink, it’s in tablet form and can be mixed with water to create a replenishing beverage to take to the gym or on hiking trips. Just like Electra, it doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients and has a variety of flavors like Caffeine, Citrus Berry, and Strawberry Lemonade.

These drink tablets are sold in bulk and can last up to 40 servings! That’s much more long-lasting as compared to a single drink. It’s recommended for all kinds of strenuous activities like travelling and working out, and you can also drink it if you feel sluggish and want to get energized again.

Our Final Thoughts

The market is over-saturated with options for electrolyte beverages with all-natural ingredients. Electra Beverages is a good option for people seeking better-tasting flavors instead of drinking Gatorade, especially for those who just want a drink that will instantly hydrate them on a hot summer day and that they can easily carry to work.
