Float N Grill from Shark Tank

Float N Grill is the perfect tool for BBQ in the pool. The portable propane grill is designed to float on water, so you have many food options when you’re at a pool party. It’s made of a strong plastic base that’s durable and can handle the weight of the grill. The grill is also rust-proof, so it won’t get damaged by the water.

It’s built to withstand high temperatures, detaches easily for cleaning purposes, and has attached cup holders so you can drink from a cup too while you cook. It also comes with two hooks to keep it stable and in one place while you flip your meat.

The company was founded by Mikey Basahwaty and Jeremy Quillico, two friends who randomly came up with the idea when they noticed that whenever they took Mikey’s boat to the lake, they had limited food options. That’s why Mikey designed a floating grill. They filed a patent for it because the design was so unique and it was initially funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Unfortunately, they could only manage to get $862 through their online campaign, even though their goal had been to reach $200,000.

The grills were made of strong vinyl material, a separate spot for a propane tank, and came with a built-in igniter. It’s sold in two different colors on Amazon. The duo wanted a Shark Tank investment so they could expand production and sales.

Are They Still an Active Company?

Yes, the company is active and still in business.

How Did the Shark Tank Pitch Go?

Mikey and Jeremy came to Shark Tank seeking an investment of $200,000 for a 20% stake in their company. They started the pitch by sharing the story and concept behind the product. They shared their sales, adding that each unit cost $126 to make and was sold for $229 without any shipping costs. Their total sales for the year stood at $19,400.

Then it was time for the Sharks to respond. Mark instantly recognized the two from their viral video, but apart from that, the Sharks were disappointed with the company’s sales so far. Daniel was interested in knowing if they could get an exclusive licensing contract with Weber grills, and they said they could because they had a patent.

This prompted Daniel to make the first offer of $200,000 for a 50% stake in the company plus promising to help get a licensing contract with Weber. Mikey responded with a counter offer of a $100,000 loan plus a 7% interest rate in addition to 20% equity and $2 per sale royalty.

He added that at the moment, the other investors already had 30% of the company. Daniel responded by suggesting that he get 22.5% plus the loan and interest rate in addition to half of any profit from a licensing deal.

By this time, the rest of the Sharks had stepped out because they didn’t like the sales. The deal was ambiguous, but it didn’t close later on. Overall, the Float N Grill Shark Tank review was neutral since they did manage to get a deal even if they chose not to go through with it.

Our Review of  Float N Grill

We decided to try out the Float N Grill for ourselves to see how it would fare in practice.

The good news is that it’s travel-friendly to use on the water and perfect for lake-sized plans since its compact design includes everything you might need during a BBQ. The UV-protected plastic prevents fading and is resistant to sudden flips, so you won’t have to worry about those. It also comes with a lid that can securely shut it. Plus, the design is unique and interesting. It has an eco-friendly design, space for a propane tank, and a lock for the grill cover.

The bad news is that it’s quite expensive and not really necessary for those who don’t have access to a boat or a pool. In comparison, portable grills might be more useful. It’s quite heavy for a grill that’s supposed to be portable too and can’t grill at deeper water depths.

Pros of Float N Grill

  • Handles high temperatures
  • Flip-resistant
  • Easy to clean
  • Protects against rust and UV rays
  • Travel-friendly
  • Environmentally friendly grease trap

Cons of Float N Grill

  • Expensive
  • Heavy
  • Can’t be used in deeper depths

Who Is Float N Grill for?

The grill is mainly targeted at people who own a boat and frequently have lakeside picnics or people who like throwing pool parties, and want to add BBQ to the menu without having to go in and out of the pool.

Are There Any Alternatives?

Since the design of Float N Grill is unique and patented by the company, there’s no other grill like theirs.

However, there are a lot of portable propane stove grills on the market that can be used for outdoor trips. One good alternative to Float N Grill is the Martin 2 Burner Propane Stove Gas Grill. The grill is lightweight and has a built-in electric ignition, just like the Float N Grill. It doubles as a stove and a grill, and the propane burners can protect the grill’s flame from being affected by rough weather conditions on cold camping sites.

The tray is made of stainless steel, making it easy to clean the removable grate. It comes with a regulator that can control the pressure of the stove grill and an additional hose for a bigger propane tank.

Our Final Thoughts

The grill’s design is unique and makes the perfect and most interesting option for pool parties or even for BBQs at the pool. It can be carried for boating trips too. However, while the grill’s design is efficient in preventing rust and easy to carry, the grill itself is quite heavy. Still, since it will float in the water, that shouldn’t really be a problem.

However, there’s no real need to cook BBQ in the pool when it can be done beforehand on the ground. Plus, there are many options for portable grills for travels that are lighter in weight.
