People around the world have started actively looking for ways to reduce plastic from everyday objects. Disposable, biodegradable, one-time products are being promoted so that the use of plastic packaging that is thrown away after only single use and takes millions of years to biodegrade can be decreased.
One of the everyday household items that use plastic for its packaging is toothpaste. On average, almost 3 to 4 toothpaste plastic tubes are used every month in a house, which means that each of us unconsciously promotes the increased plastic pollution that is damaging our Earth bit by bit.
We spend hours looking at the ingredients list of the toothpaste we put in our mouths but ignore the ease with which we toss out the plastic tubes.
Bite Toothpaste wants to end this nuisance and do better for the world by introducing a plastic-free solution to traditional toothpaste tubes.
What is Bite Toothpaste?
Bite Toothpaste is an alternative to kinds of toothpaste that use fillers, dyes, and chemicals to create their formula. Bite Toothpaste uses only pure natural ingredients to make small bites of toothpaste.
The formula’s key ingredient is Xylitol, which repels the cavity through its antibacterial action. Erythritol kills the bacteria and doesn’t let it cause a hole in your teeth. Guar gum holds the toothpaste bites together, and the flavor is enhanced by hints of berries, mandarin orange, and cherries to give a refreshing feel after you use Bite Toothpaste. The Bite Toothpaste is a natural detoxifier that cleans and polishes your teeth and helps remove surface stains and bacteria with its all-natural and effective formula.
What Makes Them Unique?
Bite Toothpaste uses recyclable and biodegradable ingredients that are compostable and doesn’t add to the already overflowing landfills and oceans with even more plastic. The company doesn’t use animals as their test subjects.
The Bite Toothpaste is no longer sold on Amazon as the company wants to eliminate plastic use during the product’s shipping, including plastic tapes and another packaging. The containers in which the toothpaste or mouthwash bits, deodorant, body balms, and whitening gels are filled and made with recyclable materials.
Are They Still an Active Company?
The company is still in business and has introduced more plastic-free and cruelty-free products to its shop. Body balm, deodorant, whitening gel, and mouthwash bits are some products sold beside the toothpaste bits.
How Did the Shark Tank Pitch Go?
Asher Hunt and Lindsay McCormick came to the show seeking $325,000 for 5% stakes in their company, Bite Toothpaste. They pitched their plastic-free, cruelty-free toothpaste bits, and Lindsay revealed that the idea for Bite Toothpaste came to her when she had to travel occasionally and couldn’t find any toothpaste in markets that didn’t come in plastic tubes.
As an entrepreneur, she decided to create her own gluten-free and natural toothpaste tablets, and when her personal experience with her product went well, she opened up her business to market the product to the world.
The company was manufacturing its products in Los Angeles, and Bite Toothpaste was packaged and sold in glass bottles that were recyclable and sustainable. The company also offers refills for its customers in compostable sacks.
The two entrepreneurs needed the help of one of the Sharks to scale their business as they still hadn’t asked for money from other investors. The Sharks were impressed by the sales figures, as the company made $1.3 million in sales the previous year. However, Bite Toothpaste had challenging competition in the market with more prominent brands and thought that the valuation they were seeking was very high for their company.
Katrina appreciated the product and its vision but observed that it didn’t contain fluoride. She expressed her concerns regarding her experience with similar toothpaste in the past, and Lindsay replied that they were working on a new formula containing fluoride. However, Katrina still went out due to the high competition and crowded market.
Robert wasn’t impressed by the low equity offer and went out.
Kevin thought the product wasn’t proprietary, and the market was immensely competitive. He offered them $325,000 for 20% equity. Meanwhile, Lori also dropped out since she didn’t feel like it was a good business for her to invest in.
Mark advised the entrepreneurs to sell on Amazon once again, and when they agreed, he offered them $325,000 for 15% equity. Lindsay and Asher countered his offer with 5% equity and 2% advisory shares, but Mark didn’t like this offer.
Kevin wanted to know why they wouldn’t agree to a high equity percentage, and the entrepreneurs revealed that they wouldn’t give up anything above 7%. They declined Mark’s and Kevin’s offers and walked out of the show without a deal.
Our Review of Bite Toothpaste
Bite Toothpaste doesn’t use artificial ingredients to enhance its flavor, which is why the toothpaste bits do not leave an overwhelming mint taste in your mouth. They are easy to use and carry in your bag so that you can clean your teeth anywhere. However, the active ingredients in Bite Toothpaste don’t provide a deep cleaning like you would expect to form a regular toothpaste, and that is why Bite Toothpaste is only convenient to use occasionally or when you are traveling and don’t want to deal with squishy tubes that can squirt out the toothpaste in your bag.
